C. RANDOLPH WEDDING, FAIA, ASLA
— PRESIDENT AND PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
Architect C. Randolph Wedding, who established Wedding and Associates
(now Wedding + Stephenson, Architects, Inc.) in 1960, assures the
firm's clients, "When they/you hire this company, they/you hire me
personally. The practice is sized so I can get my arms around it."
Mr. Wedding is highly qualified to lead the team of skilled technicians
that he built. His diverse managerial experience, both in public life and
professional practice (see Curriculum Vitae below), prepares him to meet new
challenges that walk through the office door each week.
Through his designs, Mr. Wedding has contributed a guiding hand to the
evolution of a Florida style of architecture. On a more local basis, through
his trend-setting structures and leadership, Mr. Wedding has spearheaded
downtown redevelopment in his native St. Petersburg and other rebounding
city centers.
Much of the groundwork for St. Petersburg's important in-town
redevelopment was put in place during Mr. Wedding's term as the City's
mayor. He has continued to speak out on major issues and lead significant
reform efforts including a successful referendum for establishment of a
strong mayor system of government.
Designs of which Mr. Wedding is most proud are the Florida Power
Corporation headquarters, Clearwater Square (now The Atrium) mixed-use
redevelopment complex, Florida Federal (now Bankers' Life) Tower and the
award-winning housing towers for the elderly, Graham Park and John Knox
Apartments.
He has distinguished himself with election to the College of Fellows of
the American Institute of Architects. He also has been honored with the
AIA's Medal of Honor as well as many awards from the profession for
excellence of design.
Mr. Wedding earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of
Florida. He also is a member of the American Society of Landscape
Architects. He is registered with the National Council of Architectural
Registration Boards and is licensed in a dozen states besides Florida.
Due to the firm's rare Construction Contract Administration (CCA)
Department, Mr. Wedding has expertise in construction methods applicable to
Florida and in cost control. Further, as long ago as the late 1970's, he
made it a priority to see that Wedding & Associates paved the way in the
profession in using computer technology to enhance product design. "Our
strengths are in research and analysis to develop new answers to old
problems," Mr. Wedding says.
